The season of togetherness and thanks is here! Ironically, this time of generosity and gratitude often reminds us of everything we think we are missing. Thanksgiving kicks off the season with family dinners, friendsgivings and work parties. Even if these were completely filled with rainbows, unicorns and gingerbread cookies, they could still make us feel incomplete. We wouldn't be human if we went to these events without some kind of comparison looming over our heads and hearts; If I only had such-and-such like-so-and-so has, I would be happy. Or maybe the season of togetherness reminds you of who is missing; If only so-and-so was here, I wouldn't feel alone.
As a friendly reminder for ourselves, gratitude is a practice and it is worth it! We choose to remember all the things we have that make us feel WHOLE and let that drown out the story that something is missing. When we do this, the spirit of gratitude in November can give way to a spirit of generosity in December.
